Winger by Andrew Smith. Simon and Schuster, 2013, 448 pages.
Great upper middle school/younger high school book recommended to me by a patron. Teenage boy coming of age at an elite prepschool filled with jocks. And he makes mistakes too. Very well written, first person narrative with an authentic voice. For a reader though-- 400 plus pages.
Zita the Space Girl by Ben Hatke. First Second, 2011.
Great Graphic for girls, strong girl character and a traditional hero tale. great info at the back too.

Drawing From Memory by Allen Say. Scholastic Press, 2011, 63 pages
Picture Book/Graphic-y memoir of Children's book illustrator and author, Allen Say. Full of personal drawings and family photos, Say details his early life in Japan, especially his apprenticeship to Japanese cartoonist Noro Shinpei-- whom Say lovingly refers to as Sensei. A rich and fabulous memoir detailing the young artists life in Tokyo in the years just after the end of the war. I love a graphic-y memoir.
